| Video Camera Protocol |
| There is a wide variety of different types and brands of video cameras on the market. VHS video cameras still exist but aren't widely used because of them being cumbersome. Lets focus on just two modern types of the hand held variety. Common sense and afford ability usually determines what you can and cannot purchase. Currently, the choices are not limited to video cameras with magnetic tape (Hi-8) with digital capabilities and video cameras with digital hard drive and memory card capabilities. Some people prefer magnetic tape, others prefer digital hard drive. Each had its advantages and disadvantages. Once again, it is your choice. Either way, fully research both types of video cameras to determine desired IR or internal audio capabilities and which type you are interested in and what is affordable to you. Any accessory purchases for the camera is a personal choice and decisions on purchasing what is desired will have to be made accordingly. Know your camera’s functions completely and understand all settings. You should have the date and time stamp set accordingly before any investigation. 1. Check your camera’s operating condition and charge your battery before each investigation. Make sure you have a supply of fresh batteries, new tapes or discs and a clean lens. 2. Know the operation of your video camera and its functions completely. Adjust all camera settings accordingly for the investigation at hand. With video cameras in hand held or tri-pod use, always make sure that the strap and/or attached IR light are situated as not to interfere with the lens. The date and time on the camera’s time stamp should correspond with the actual date and time. 3. If a problem develops during an investigation and you don’t quite know how to correct it, ask for advice. We are here to help each other in any way we can and we may be able to help correct the problem. 4. Make sure you bring all video camera supplies necessary for the investigation (new tapes, discs, Tri-pod, extra batteries, AC power cord, etc). 5. Always have your hand held video camera ready to shoot. 6. When using a tri-pod and video camera for stationary video footage, make sure that the camera is properly attached to the tri-pod so that it is secure from movement and positioned correctly. The predetermined area of interest must be in frame and in focus. 7. After the investigation, the analysis of video footage is important. Watch the video in real time to make sure that no possible recorded paranormal activity is overlooked. Be patient. Fast forwarding in “play” mode will not give you accurate results. Note the time stamps of possible evidence as you watch the entire video. Add five to ten seconds before time stamp and after the recorded activity ceases and save that section. An AVI format works well. 8. Along with the investigation report, the information of recorded video activity is sent in with the video clips to the President/Founder(s) for final analysis and determination. The investigator may be contacted if there are any questions about the video clips. 9. Communicate if you have any questions about video analysis. There are no stupid questions and assistance is readily accessible. (subject to future updates) © Copyright 2006-2009 "The Arizona Paranormal Research Society" |
